Picture
I am happy to announce my participation in a group show of former students of the Jugend Musik and Kunstschule at Streitbörger and Speckmann in Bielefeld. The exhibition is organised and curated by Manfred Schnell, my teacher at the school that - between 1982 - 1987 (?) -  I attended once or twice weekly after "regular" school.

As I am preparing my installation "Wedge" at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Detroit in April, I often think about some of the paintings by Caspar David Friedrich. Some of his best paintings are in the Hamburger Kunsthalle. The "Wanderer" is one that I like a lot. As much I can identify with the moment that one experiences when reaching the top of a hill or an outlook after a hike only up, and feeling exhausted yet also the center of it all, it also makes me wonder. Who is this man? Who is looking at him from behind? And that landscape... too  pretty to be true. One tries to have a change of vantage point, and what does he see or what does he feel?

Make sure to visit Vimeo.com daily to see the small trailers introducing the Kresge Arts in Detroit fellows. Each day a video will be posted leading up to Art x Detroit.
