Hartmut Austen holds a term appointment as an Assistant Professor for Painting and Drawing at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cites in the third year. His primary studio teaching responsibilities fall in the area of Drawing and Painting in the undergraduate program, where students engage both in observational and non-objective projects, and mentorship of graduate students. Prior, he worked at the University of Iowa as Visiting Assistant Professor (Grant Wood Fellowship) and in the Detroit area, where he taught a range of studio courses in painting, as well as 2-D and 3-D design courses at Wayne State University, the College for Creative Studies and Eastern Michigan University.
